I agree with you 100% on this point "Let the company do the talking...". I do not know if there are shorters or not on this thread but I have seen SI threads do dramatic things to a stock both positive and negative. I have seen and read about mainly BB stocks rising 50% or falling 50% one day just because several people either spread positive or negative rumors about a compoany in SI. I personally think that the company has recently gave no official reports that would shed negatively on the stock and had positive earnings estimates coming in 97. I think that if someone just invested in companies hard hit with negative threads(unofficial news) and held the stock for one year that person can make some decent money since the best weapon for unofficial negative threads is positive official news.
