The problem is that people are so naive that whatever M$ comes up with, many people will believe. M$ has paralyzed markets with FUD but no product, many times. In fact that's a methodical approach to business for them. That's why I am so hoping that Sun executes on this

I think MSFT has paralyzed it's last market. I really believe that. Open standards owns the day, and tomorrow, and the next day. MSFT's stated plan is to RETAIL their proprietary software over network. They would do better taking MSN to IPX. Maybe they can get get it cheap from Novell.

By retailing their software, their competition becomes the rest of the world, beginning with those who own the network wires and do the monthly billing.

I don't view this as a time to be smug. Smugness is the enemy. This is the moment when the paranoid survive. Microsoft will act paranoid. Sun must also.

And they are. And it's okay to be smug now because it's so obvious that the right model is being executed by the right company at the right time. I think we're making a run to a two stock splits in 7 months time. Paranoia is karma.

Ammended edit: 3 stock spits in 15 months time. I forgot Y2K and/or the MSFT market paralization period (Y2K/W2K).
