What Tyranny Looks Like

Liberals these days seem to be very confused about what tyranny is, how it behaves and how it handles dissent. Cindy Sheehan can say with a straight face and within eyesight of the Pentagon, for example, that the Bush administration is subverting democracy and crushing dissent on its way to military rule. The lefty blogs are full of such talk, non-stop, 24/7. And not just the crazy ones like DU. The supposedly responsible ones like Kevin Drum talk of the menacing Bush administration and simmering frogs.

And yet these blogger have never posted their latest anti-Bush screed and had that followed by a knock at the door, a summons to court, or any other action taken by the government against them. Meredith Viera can go on marching with her International ANSWER pals on weekends while taking the helm of Today to her heart’s content, secure in the knowledge that the government won’t at any point round her up or confiscate her millions.

Like I said, liberals think they see tyranny everywhere, except where it actually exists, like China. Or Iran. Or North Korea. Or Nepal, whose king is teaching fellow tyrants how to behave themselves:

<<< Protesters demanding a return to democracy postponed a rally that had been expected to draw thousands on Saturday, after the king imposed an all-day curfew and ordered violators shot on sight.

One person was killed and at least two wounded when security forces fired at demonstrators in Pokhara, a resort town 125 miles west of the capital, Katmandu, said Gangadhar Baral, who was among those wounded.

“We were protesting and some of us were throwing stones at the soldiers. Suddenly, the soldiers fired shots at us. One of my friends was killed instantly,” Baral said. He spoke from the town’s main hospital. >>>

Liberals, that’s what real tyranny looks like. Until Karl Rove orders you shot on sight, lighten up a little.
