I remember all those old life preserver thingies. My grandmothers and great aunts used to have them hanging in their boathouses. Am I just old, or were the new things introduced not that long ago? (I realize that the two possibilities are not mutually exclusive.) It seems like when I got into high school, and started hanging out with boys who were interested in outdoor activities like camping, and hiking, that I started seeing the new stuff, and I assumed that it was just something that you bought if you had a lot of money (we moved to a much nicer neighborhood).
