Having managed 30+ SAP projects i wouldn't say R/3 is technically poor and inflexible. It can be -and has been- adjusted to a whole lot of different industries.
But i agree that the market is somewhat limited (but not only to fortune 500 companies). It takes a lot of human resources to get this "gorilla" going - and keep it going. Makes only sense for bigger (100 mil. $+ sales) companies. But there are thousands out there...

How high can it go? No idea, i got all my stock in the early 90s and i only check it once a year or so. PE is rich, but who cares ?

Certainly a remarkable company. Working for them was fun. As long as Hopp rules, things will be good.
