Lazarus,

Pacifists with noble ideals are to be respected even when one does not agree with their ideas. They are right, War is about the most terrible thing that men can do to each other.

The fact is : so much death could be ahead, and it is always the innocents that suffer the most in any war, and there better be a good reason to walk down this path. We are lucky today that we have the right of free speech, hence it should be used to understand all aspects of the terrible task ahead. It is only knowing there is no other choice that one should go along with this.

However, it is obvious that true pacifists cannot hate, it is against their nature to hate anyone. Hence they must be respected for their ideals. What you've seen here is there are people who claim they are against war, yet can hate other human beings with such intensity, such passion! Productive dialogue in this case is basically a waste of precious time --- theirs and yours.

There is still hope that it will end without a real war.

But one cannot have a credible threat of force unless the other side understands that that force WILL be used if required. And there in lies the rub. If Saddam calls the Americans' bluff. What happens? Do they walk away from this or carry through this madness? Lets hope we don't have to find out.
