I'm quite sure that some of my ancestors did own slaves, but I am not about to apologize for them. Slavery is bad. It is regrettable, and I regret that it occurred. But... -I wasn't there. -I don't support slavery. -Slavery is not unique to American history. -American slavery was abetted by slavers in Africa. -I'm a Yankee by choice, not by birth. -It's all in the past. -Everybody needs to get with the program.
