interesting thought Jaakko-

Alcatel is apparently getting a lot of pressure from their customers for interoperability - even though ALA is purportedly not very helpful in getting others.

And significant rumors that ALA is having problems with G.lite's fast retrain and power mgmt functions due to limitations in their current DSLAM design.

So maybe they ARE looking around for help, and trying to leverage their position.
