People often talk about left and right having much different understandings in their mind as to what it represents.

Put simply: left and right do NOT refer to social, political or economic systems. What they refer to is what and how people believe. On the right, people believe some form of dogma. It doesn't matter what the dogma is. As Marshall Mcluhan once said the "medium is the message" (not the content).

What matters is how one arrives at their reality. So when one goes as far right as they can, their reality is a total script they follow with no room for deviation. So the further right one is the more the person is following a script e.g. very religious people, very primitive cultures like Saudi Arabia, orthodox Jews or christians or muslims.

The left on the other hand involves less script and more independent thinking, until you get all the way as far left as you can go and end up with pure existential thought (no script at all, as far as one can do that).
