You don't mix church with state AT ALL. Its as simple as that.......Bush and the GOP are ignoring that fundamental law and trying to mix the two.

It's not as simple as that, and none of the stuff you posted backs up the position that they can't be mixed "AT ALL".

That was the intent.....did you not read what Jefferson and Madison wrote?

The first phrase "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." is called the establishment clause. It has been interpreted by the courts as requiring a separation between church and state. That is, the government (and by extension public schools) may not:

Again the courts are only further interpreting what the FF laid out. There was no question in the minds of Jefferson and other FF that there is no place in the gov't for religion. Only the GOP seems to think otherwise.

promote one religion or faith group over any other
promote a religiously based life over a secularly based life
promote a secularly based life over a religiously based life.

How would my example of allowing the government to fund church based AA programs in addition to non-church based AA programs go afoul of any of those three?

The gov't already does fund programs with religious backing......however, Bush's faith based law is more concerned that a program has a religious background than the quality or competitiveness of the program as compared to secular programs. That's why he implemented the law in the first place. There was nothing wrong with the current system so why pass a new law.

And what about this praying in Congress........I nearly flipped out of my skin when I heard that one. Why don't we put a cross on top of the spire above Congress?
