Here is a brief from an investment advisory from Stack and his thoughts on a recession. For what it is worth, he is one of 4 who called the 1987 crash.

DECEMBER 1 ~ Few will believe the U.S. economy is on a collision course with a recession in 2001. Blue-chip investors are nervously complacent with the DJIA still holding above 10,000. And even dot.com investors are hoping for some miracle to restore their battered portfolios (many of which have crashed over 90%). Yet bear markets never accommodate such hopes. Today's monetary climate, with an inverted yield curve, shows that without an immediate and aggressive easing by the Federal Reserve, there's an 80% probability of recession dead ahead.
