Allen or RTOS experts,

What does it take to modify Tornado to fit I2O, DSP, etc? Is it as simple as a porting exercise or does it take 6-12 months of coding? I'm concerned about the effort upgrades and new releases will require as Tornado is modified to fit more and more chip sets.
