Frontier and Network Associates to Team-up to Combine Industry-Leading Connectivity and Managed Security Services

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 1999--

Enables Frontier to Manage Customers' Internet Security from its Central Network Operations Center

Frontier Communications, (NYSE: FRO), a leading provider of integrated communication services, and Network Associates, Inc. (Nasdaq: NETA) today announced that Frontier plans to provide a managed security offering built around Network Associates' global professional services and best-of-breed Internet security products, including the newly announced WebShield E-ppliance product line. Customer trials are scheduled to begin next month, with wide spread commercial availability targeted for first quarter of 2000.

By partnering with Network Associates, Frontier will be able to remotely manage its customers' security services from its centralized Network Operations Center, enabling customers adopting e-business strategies to outsource all of their network security requirements and virtually eliminate the need for expensive in-house resources. By taking advantage of the new "plug-and-play" security E-ppliances, Frontier can also quickly deploy its managed security solutions at customer sites with minimal consulting or implementation overhead.

"Security is the underlying foundation for many of our data networking efforts and is vital to our product portfolio as we move up the value chain and begin to offer messaging, collaboration and e-commerce services," said Brian Fink, Frontier's vice president of products and systems. "Network Associates broad range of products and service expertise makes it the perfect partner for managed security services and allows us to work with our customers to customize their online business solutions in a secure environment."

The Network Associates WebShield E-ppliance line, announced today, provides an easy-to-deploy Internet security platform that delivers industry-leading functionality, integration and management capabilities. Frontier plans to utilize these capabilities to offer its business customers a managed security solution that ensures the security of customers' information down to the network level, essentially providing secure data-tone end-to-end.

"By leveraging the E-ppliance line, as well as Network Associates other security expertise, Frontier's customers will receive industry-leading security for their vital assets while Network Associates continues its move into the growing mid-size market," said Zach Nelson, executive vice president of marketing and alliances at Network Associates. "With the addition of the WebShield E-ppliance line, Frontier will be able to provide its customers with a targeted selection of the sophisticated tools and services they need to conduct e-business, while keeping within customers' parameters of deployment effort, manageability and cost."

Frontier will also work with Network Associates' global professional services group to provide its customers with critical support services including security auditing, policy establishment and maintenance, and ongoing outsourced business processes support.

Frontier and Network Associates have an existing relationship, with Network Associates using the nationwide Frontier network for its data and voice communications. In addition, Frontier has been utilizing Network Associates' industry-leading Active Security-enabled products to secure customer networks around the globe with Gauntlet Firewall, PGP VPN and CyberCop vulnerability assessment tools.
