Ed, Stephen Etc.

My Two Cents:

1. INTEL is a great company, will continue to be great but will not be a monopoly! I think what we are seeing is the ability of the shrewed boxmakers (with Compaq as the leader) to put a damper on Intel's long term goal of " All Companies be nothing more than Distributors Of Intel Products". Remember the battle cry of a couple of years ago - Intel Inside vs If Compaq Outside who cares what is inside?

2. The DEC deal will allow Compaq (with Alpha) to further strengthen this situation of "not playing hostage" to Intel.

My Guess is more will happen along these lines and Compaq is positioned for a take off when all the chips start to align. Many folks on this thread have shares in other great companies - Dell, INTEL, Microsoft etc. .. while all great, these companies have different goals and ones success does not necessarily mean the same for others in the same time frame. Yes they actually compete with one another although it may not be obvious. They will adjust and have to deal with the competitive threats.

In the mean time way, way long on CPQ at these prices!
