NEC Corporation has announced that NEC and Packard Bell have officially concluded the transaction announced on June 4 calling for the merger of NEC's international personal computer operations with Packard Bell.
The new company, called Packard Bell NEC, Inc. will be located in Sacramento, California, USA. Sales of US$8 billion are projected for the first year. NEC and Bull? I'll do some work on Bull to see if they have branded PCs in France who will be major shareholders of Packard Bell NEC, Inc. will work closely with the new company. NEC will assign two board members to the company and other appropriate personnel.
The main contents of the merger are as follows:
i. Integration of PC operations worldwide except Japan and China. For the Asia-Pacific market including Australia, PC sales operations will continue to be operated by NEC with NEC branded products supplied by Packard Bell NEC, Inc.
ii. Integration of PC server operations in the US and Europe.
As a result of this integration, Packard Bell NEC, Inc. will reach broader market segments in the home, business, government and public sectors with products ranging from desktop and notebook PCs to PC servers. The new company will benefit from economies of scale in development, production, sales, maintenance and customer service and support.
NEC, Bull and Packard Bell NEC, Inc. will further strengthen their collaborative efforts to maintain the preeminent position in the PC market playing a key role in creating de facto standards in the multimedia era.
