There are a couple of areas which concern me. Number one is the confusing morass of information on their website; that tells me that they have not actually done any independent evaluation or that they have only surveyed those too embarrassed to admit to confusion. There is no product grid, no price list, no software and hardware requirements list. One gets a very strong feeling from their website that they are a UNIX software developer with some products that can run on Windows as an incidental result of being written in Java. There isn't anyway to order online so one gets the impression this is not a company that wants to supply small business, nevermind consumers. A salesman actually called me and I asked him why this information was not spelled out on the website along with pricing information. This is what he told me: "We would rather talk to people personally." Does the product require personal interaction with sales personell and do I really want to invest in a company that throws such a large and expensive bottleneck at what should be an over-the-counter transaction? They appear to be fishing for big accounts and that's not compatible with the multi-billion dollar office suite market which they could be going after. One of their recent press releases states that the set a record of 255 new customers over some period of weeks or months. That tells me they either aren't selling their Java products or that those customers don't register as a sale. There is another possiblity: they are bragging about selling a few hundred office suites on a planetary scale. As for the stock price, IBM announced that it will be shipping it's eSuite with its Network Computers which were also released today. Check www.lotus.com where you will find a clear picture of the product and the pricing. Perhaps the folks at APLX should visit that site?
