I have to confess that I have never understood the wisdom of taking money off the table when splits occur, or when the stock doubles in prices, or the like. To me, there is no such thing as invested capital as distinct from paper profits. I don't see differences between cash or other liquid assets.

To me its all fungible. The object is to make it bigger, always starting from your total current asset base. Sell if there is a reason to sell; buy if a stock should be bought. But I don't bother with trying to bank profits, obtain income versus capital gains to live on, etc. But to each his own.
