Eisenhower warned us about the abuse of power by the industrial military war profiteers. They had their equals on the Soviet side too. Together, those mongers set to work to scare the be-Jesus out of people on both sides, demonize the other side and make mainly false and deceptive arguments to create an insane arms race based on the threat and fear of mutual self-destruction. I don't know exactly who started it, but it should have been worked out a long-long time ago between the two sides. Why wasn't it? Because both sides had too much power and money at stake so they both wanted to keep it going. In fact, the whole Cold War was something of a self-fulfilling prophesy and massive hoax perped by the war-mongers on each side. Exactly the types Eisenhower warned us again, and who knew better than Ike? One reasons the Bushies are so evil is that they are hungry to create a new Cold War, a permanent state of war, so they ignore most diplomacy and try to scare us into justifying huge increases in arms expenditures. And if Bushies can't find an enemy to scare us with, they will create one. Like the lies they told us about Iran just recently. JFK probably would have done a lot to end the Cold War, but his assissnation was by the very same forces who wanted to keep that Cold War going, and keep the mutual demonization and fear-mongering going. It is also interesting to note that while we demonized the Nazis (which they deserved) after the war we took on some of their characteristics, as did the Soviet Union, that is both moving toward imperialism and totalitarianism where the government is king, war is glorified and citizens are not allowed to question authority, no matter how wrong or corrupt.
