Nope, not even the first direct claim. Dr. Jacobs said that GSM1X would enhance spectral efficiency and provide 386 kbps data speeds for a 1.25 mhz gsm carrier. He said that 1xEV DO would enhance data speeds for GSM1X to 2.4 MBS for a single 1.25 MHZ gsm carrier. He did not say anything about enhancing WCDMA to 2.4 MBS in a 5 MHZ carrier. I was intrigued by his claim that GSM1X could be used in existing spectrum. The only caveat would be - outside of Europe.

I have still not seen any technology for 5 MHZ spectrum beyond 386 kbps. I guess we need to reach the conclusion for 3gPP2 before we see the full potential for voice and data in UMTS networks. Standards for 5 MHZ channels will be done soon - I hope.
