I have spokent to a few friends at AT&TLabs and they believe it is BIG breakthrough. But they also have concerns with the patents related to the "pizza box" wireless technology. This technology is already being offered by other vendors, but AT&T is using a proprietary protocol that improves upon what is available curently in the market.

I also believe this announcement is as powerful a PR tool for the RBOC's to reduce access charges as it is a technological breakthrough. I would encourage other peoples thoughts on these comments.
