Sigma Designs' REALmagic DVD Card Earns Editor's Choice Award
Low Cost DVD/MPEG-2 Playback Card Named as Best Digital Video Player by The Computer Paper -- Described as Truly Superior
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 1997--Sigma Designs, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIGM), a recognized leader in digital video solutions for personal computers, announced today that its REALmagic Hollywood DVD/MPEG-2 playback card was awarded the Editor's Choice Award as the best digital video player at COMDEX Canada '97 by the editors of The Computer Paper.

With more than 1,000,000 readers, the Computer Paper is Canada's largest computer magazine.

``DVD players were nearly everywhere,'' stated the editors of The Computer Paper. ``But the REALmagic product was truly superior. REALmagic DVD came through (literally) with flying colors.''

The editors also noted that DVD was one of the dominant themes of the show, thus making the award even more notable.

``We at Sigma Designs are all very proud that REALmagic DVD was selected for this prestigious award by The Computer Paper,'' said Prem Talreja, Sigma Designs' vice president of Marketing. ``This shows how our OEM customers' PCs and upgrade kits that include the REALmagic Hollywood will stand out in one of the most significant new product categories for home entertainment.''

Available through Sigma's OEM customers, the new PCI-bus REALmagic Hollywood DVD MPEG-2 playback card turns a PC into a full-featured DVD player that fully exploits all of the spectacular digital video and digital surround sound capabilities of the DVD format, as well as upcoming MPEG-2 interactive titles. Fully complying with DVD specifications, Sigma's unique solution displays flicker-free video at full screen resolution, making video watching on a PC truly a new and rich experience. Sigma's solution can work with any existing 133 Mhz system and does not require any specialized graphics card. This makes it the ideal choice for PC manufacturers and DVD upgrade kit providers.

The REALmagic DVD card includes all the device drivers and Sigma Designs' DVD-Station, an easy-to-use application for DVD navigation and control. With DVD-Station, PC users can take full advantage of every interactive DVD feature, using simple VCR-like controls to choose the sound track and subtitle language, select viewing aspect ratios and change viewing angles. The user interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. Users can also use the DVD-Station menus to exercise parental control, and perform search commands.

The REALmagic DVD card is available through a variety of Sigma's OEM PC makers such as Royal Computers (800/486-0008), Zenon Computer Systems (800/899-6119), Pollywell Computers (415/583-7222), Max Group (800/256-9040), and DVD upgrade kit providers such as Utobia (888/488-6242) and Haitai in Korea.
