LSI Logic Introduces an ARM7TDMI(TM) Core-Based Silicon Development Platform To Reduce ASIC Development Cycle Times
MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced its AMCU silicon development platform, a fully integrated microcontroller device specifically targeted at easing development of embedded ARM7TDMI ASIC designs. The LSI Logic AMCU features a rich set of microcontroller peripherals combined with the popular ARM7TDMI core and 4 Kbytes of on-chip memory. The device contains sophisticated power-saving modes for low power dissipation making it particularly suited for portable application ASIC designs.
The single-chip AMCU device can be used as a prototyping vehicle for system-level hardware and software development. The device also serves as a complete, re-usable modular microcontroller design database, which is easily customized and used as part of an ASIC design. The AMCU silicon development platform was designed using LSI Logic's CoreWare(R) ASIC design methodology and is a fully verifiable, testable and portable for easy integration.
"Time to market is everything," said Bob VanSteenburgh, director processor cores," The LSI Logic AMCU is an excellent prototype vehicle and customizable platform allowing rapid deployment of system level ASICs that require an ARM(R) subsystem."
The AMCU is packaged in a convenient small footprint 176-ball MBGA. The peripherals that surround the ARM7TDMI core include:
* UARTs * Timer Counters * External memory interface * Easy access to customer-specific logic * Flexible communication with an external processor * External interrupt capability on all 32 GPIO pins * Flexible interrupt configuration
The silicon development platform includes a fully featured development board with convenient debug access via a serial port and complete diagnostic software routines. The LSI Logic AMCU device is fully supported by ARM Software Development Tools and a comprehensive development tool chain. It also features a VxWorks Board Support Package (BSP) providing industry-standard RTOS support. Re-usable IP Cores
Each of the peripherals featured on the device is built around the open AMBA(TM) bus architecture standard to facilitate IP re-use and customization to specific design requirements. The ARM7TDMI core on the AMCU has been synthesized into standard LSI Logic ASIC library cells to tailor the core for industry-standard ASIC design flows. Key to this approach is the incorporation of Full Scan test hardware throughout the core and in all major peripheral blocks. About LSI Logic
