Ted, I can't argue with anything you said, because we're once again dueling with wild speculations.

I will point out, however, that there are many Dems on the various intelligence oversight committees who had to have known exactly what was going on, because it's their job to know. And we'll never know just how much they knew, because it's also their job not to tell us. Just like the Sandy Berger flap, this too will pass. Of course, Abu Ghraib is a LOT worse than a few materials taken from the classified Archives.

This brings up some issues that go much, much deeper than a bunch of S&M photos, and I don't feel like bringing them up right now. Suffice to say that if we're going to be introducing the necessary checks and balances to prevent another Abu Ghraib, we shouldn't expect intelligence to be all-knowing and all-predictive in the war on terror. Unless, of course, we get to the future depicted in the movie Minority Report.
