Dave, I hate to tell you but the flying of the F-111's against Libya was a token effort to get the AF invloved in that battle. The Navy had carriers right off the coast of Libya and already had launched cruise missiles and air attacks. Using the F-111's in that battle and making them fly 1000 miles or so was for the sole purpose of allowing the Air Force to participate in the battle. The Navy did 95% of the effort and the use of the F-111's was not needed or effective. They were as a political tool for the Air Force only
