BUSINESS WIRE--May 23, 2000--Advanced Digital Information Corporation today announced that its new Scalar 100 tape library platform has been named as a finalist for Data Integrity/Back-up Product of the Year by the selection committee for CMP's prestigious Networking Industry Awards. The Awards, scheduled to be presented in June, are given to the year's most innovative products as judged by a panel of industry experts. The Scalar 100 is the first automated tape storage system with an architecture designed to support Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attach Storage (NAS) connectivity, along with more conventional SCSI connection options. The new library, designed to support a choice of media types, also offers the highest storage density among tape libraries. "ADIC is honored to have the IT industry recognize the Scalar 100 as one of the year's most innovative automated storage platforms," said Bill Britts, ADIC(R) executive vice president of Sales and Marketing. "New and flexible approaches are required if storage systems are going to continue to meet the rapidly evolving needs of enterprise IT departments and the new demands generated by proliferating Internet data centers. We built the Scalar 100 with all these requirements in mind. We support emerging drive technologies for the highest levels of capacity and performance. We supply dynamic connectivity -- the ability to fit easily into a wide range of network architectures -- for flexibility. We provide fault tolerance to maintain high availability for critical data. And we provide industry leading storage density." ADIC has a heritage of designing innovative storage products that win CMP Networking Industry Award honors. ADIC's FastStor DLT autoloader was named Data Integrity/Back-up Product of the Year by the same organization in 1998. ADIC's Scalar 100 is a midrange tape library platform designed to support the industry's broadest range of emerging storage and network architectures with user-configurable, plug-in modules. The library supports standard SCSI connections but can be easily converted for SAN use by the addition of a FibreReady(TM) SAN module. Installation of the library's StorNext(TM) NAS option produces a network-attached storage appliance with nearly 5TB of capacity. With DLT drives installed, the library has room for up to six drives and 4.8 terabytes of storage capacity in only 14 units of standard vertical rack space (just over 24 inches). The library is also designed to support SuperDLT, AIT, and LTO drive and media technology. The Scalar 100 offers easy field scalability, allowing customers to begin with a low drive and media count and add more drive and media positions as data grows, lowering initial deployment costs and reducing the need for infrastructure upgrades.
