PCs spread like weeds in the early 80s and instead of taking the lead from the UNIX community, some warmed-over, DOS hacking buffoons connected the systems using a cheezy-ass, proprietary pile of dog dirt software. Fortunately for Novell, they were the only kid on the DOS networking block for so long they were able to co-opt the market. In the late 80's, there were dozens of far more powerful, far better designed, far more open, far less complex and far cheaper networking solutions; but it was too late to gain a foothold before Microsoft was jumping in themselves. Now all of these clown-ware companies have realized that the UNIX community had it right all along: Uhhh..dduhhh... DAT SOUNDS LOGICAL!
