I don't think the chances are particularily high, but if they do it I'd be more concerned about the influence Intel would gain over AMD. ATI chipsets are very popular in AMD mobiles and are becoming more popular in AMD desktops. Beyond that Intel would could have more of a direct influence on the driver performance of ATI-based video cards.

I wonder if the rumors Charlie heard about Intel getting into the graphics business actually refer to Intel buying ATI rather than creating their own home grown solution:
