Newton: Apple's Golden Egg

via MacUser

>The MessagePad 2000 is a watershed in the Newton platform, if for no
other reason than Apple's finally understanding that to make a product
sell, it has to come with the right applications preinstalled. People don't
buy PDAs as platforms, they buy them as solutions -- a lesson it took
Apple three years to learn. Apple finally did the right thing in bundling a
spreadsheet program, a word processor, e-mail capability, and a Web
browser with the MP2K. In doing so, it created a package that really goes
to the next level above the PDA and gets dangerously close to
notebook-computer territory.<
