Forgive the outdated example, but: It was also an issue when VHS was first introduced. As you may recall, BETA was a superior format. That beside the point, VHS players were all VTP (video tape players) at first and unable to record. Now, of course, they can...as we all know.

The fact hat DVD is still read only is no surprise to me, and of no concern either.
