Is Ciena cutting the workforce gearing up to supply those boxes? Unlikely.

Ciena Corp. yesterday laid off an additional 650 people, or 22 percent of its workforce, because of dramatically slower sales in the fiber-optics sector.

Every big telecom vendor will targeting "..focusing on sales to older, richer companies like the regional Bell companies and AT&T Corp. It's going to be a cut throat market for these boxes.
