When I was in graduate school at the university of Washington I had several classes with a New York Jewish princess. I was a working class clod from Alaska that wore climbing boots to class. She wore cashmere sweaters.

We hated each other. Quietly. But after a few months I noticed everything she said, I agreed with. So one day in one of my very unusual, insightfull moments, I walked up to her and said: "I know there has been some tension between us, but I have been listening to you for a couple of months now, and agree with almost everything you say-- and I added you dress great"-lol.

Next day she invited me out and we became fast friends, and stayed friends forever.

Am reading a new book: "Just kids" by Pattie Smith".

It is a very thoughtful book. You would like it.
