Gosh- I hope it's not as simple as a male/female thing. I loved your arguments on Shall We Dance. I found the relationship between the man and his wife very complicated, and very Japanese. I also found the office dynamics, as portrayed in the movie, to be very complicated. I think Shall We Dance can be taken on many levels. It has the same qualities as a really good fable- it can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it.
