-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday July 29 8:28 AM EDT Company Press Release Beijing Selects INC's Multimedia Access Solutions INC wins its second Broadband Network Contract in China BRIDGEWATER, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1997-- Integrated Network Corporation (INC), today announced that it has signed an agreement with the Beijing Telecom Administration (BTA) in the People's Republic of China to become the system integrator and equipment supplier for BTA's video-on-demand trial network project. Under this agreement, INC will supply its ODIN 3000 Multimedia Access Systems to provide video-on-demand and other high-speed communications services initially to over 135 subscribers in the city of Beijing. This configuration is expected to allow up to 2,400 subscribers to be connected to a full service network.
INC will integrate Tatung's digital set-top boxes and Celerity's video servers into this ATM based network. INC will provide five ODIN 3000 systems that will be connected over BTA's backbone network that uses Alcatel ATM switches. The total value of this agreement is expected to exceed $2.4 million with deliveries beginning in October 1997.
INC signed a similar agreement earlier this year with Guangdong Province Telecom Administration (GPTA) for implementation of multimedia services in the cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The GPTA agreement was valued at over $4 million for the deployment of 10 ODIN 3000 Multimedia Access Systems that began in June 1997. GPTA Phase II calls for deployment at two additional housing projects with an additional 4500 customers in two cities. Later, the same configuration will be expanded to nine cities. It is expected that the two systems (BTA and GPTA) will be connected over a Chinese national ATM backbone network in 1998.
The ODIN 3000 products enable network providers to scale from small single service systems to large full service networks capable of offering a variety of broadband services. The ODIN 3000 connects subscribers using existing copper telephone wire to high bandwidth fiber optic cable for the delivery of a full compliment of multimedia applications like digital CATV, Internet access and interactive video via telephone networks through appropriate customer premise equipment.
After extensive evaluation of many companies, BTA selected INC based on its comprehensive end-to-end solution and its excellent track record in Asia. INC has already successfully deployed ODIN 3000 products for Korea Telecom's Video Dialtone Network (VDT), which supports the first commercial video on demand service in Asia.
``We are excited to be participating in the introduction of applications such as video-on-demand, distance learning and telemedicine to China,'' said Y. Brian Chen, vice president and general manager of INC's ODIN Products Division. ``The modular and scaleable nature of the ODIN suite of products will enable China to grow its network, add new services, and expand to other provinces. We are certain this will drive the development and expansion of interactive multimedia services offered throughout China.''
