cgg, you're back! Frezza has been running a tech discussion group on CDMA and some interesting points come up. For example, I didn't know that the concept of soft capacity whereby the next caller can still come on-line, reducing the quality for all slightly isn't part of the claims for CDMA anymore. Frezza has been using a handset in the Trenton area and he says it is pretty much as good as the TDMA handsets. One of the areas that interests me is the "in the barrel" effect he mentions that the person at the other end gets when listening to somebody with a CDMA phone. I had taken it to be desirable, because background noise doesn't get transmitted, so standing on a busy street corner, it is nice, clear voice only going through, which makes the person at the other end think you are on a golf course rather than in a car on a busy street.
