J,

Just take the checkmark out of "Automatically fix errors" in the opening screen of Scandisk, and use the Standard test. I believe it reports to a .LOG file that it puts in your Windows directory.

The Illegal Op message may be caused by disk errors as well, as Windows uses the HD for virtual memory. This could also be caused by a bad system file, or a problem with memory management. Is there a particular time when you get it? Does it give you any more info when you click the Close button (via a Details button); never mind the register dumps, what we're looking for is "This caused a (fault of some sort) in Taht".

So, are we going to have a "weasly wednesday" here? We don't seem to have moved much off the mark, and PC Quote says that the OEX high was 467.75. I believe R said that one should wait for a pull up to 469, then a drop back to 468 before going in for a run up. In the past, the market seemed to want a 100+ drop in the dow before starting back up again, the last few weeks being an exception.
