Yes, the left tries to expand personal freedoms; the right tries to restrict them.

Both sides do both. The left does plenty of restricting.

I am curious as to your examples where the left has restricted freedoms. If one of them is the payment of income taxes or the owning of uzis, don't bother.

First from what I understand, sodomy laws still exist in the states that have a rightie bent.

They where declared unconstitutional by the supreme court.

Yes, the Supreme Court invalidated sodomy laws but that does not mean the the 13 states with sodomy laws have repealed them. In the article below, please note the 13 states with sodomy laws which btw, for 9 of the 13 the laws applied to heteros as well as gays. You will see that every last state is a red state. Why is the right so concerned with what people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms?

Here is a list of the states where their sodomy laws have been repealed as well as those where they either still exist or are awaiting action:

Secondly, the left isn't trying to make straight people marry gay people. Gay people simply want to marry each other. How does that effect anyone but the gay people in question?

What actually do they want to do? Do they want to live together? They can do that. Do they want to have sex? They can do that as well. Do they want to share property? Yes that as well. Do they want to have a ceremony demonstrating their commitment? No problem there, its also legal. The lack of support isn't a restriction on the freedom oh homosexuals. They can do anything, what they want is not the freedom to do something but the acceptance and support of their actions and decisions by government and society. If society is ready and will to accept and support gay marriage then fine, but if it isn't homosexuals shouldn't be able to compel such support. We live in a democracy, such issues should be decided by the voters and their elected representatives.

Read my lips: they want to be married legally. Just as other non 'acceptable' couples from other times in our history..........black slaves, Jews and Christians, people of color and whites etc. They want their relationships sanctioned by the state in order to accrue all the benefits and credibility such sanctioning provides.

How does that hurt the marriages of heteros? In fact, why should heteros care? Furthermore, why does the right care so much about matters that are personal?
