I served my country in the Air Force from 1962 to 1966, and am proud of this service. I have read as much of the background on Kerry as I can find (outside of the news media, which seems to have a soft spot in it's heart for him). I cannot understand a nation that rewards an individual who came back from that dreadful war and threw his medals, the appropriateness of some of which are now in question, back in the face of his country. I also cannot understand his claim that he and his fellow servicemen and women committed "atrocities" while in-country. I know many other 'Nam vets. I have seen their service. I know my own service. I don't know of anyone who committed anything like this presidential aspirant claims to have been the norm over there.
I do know that when I was discharged, I had to travel home in my dress blues. I have never seen such hostile individuals as those I encountered every step of the way from my back to my home town. Most were unwashed and unlettered. I was reviled as a baby killer, an animal, a thug - the list goes on and on. This was the mid-60's, the very start of the "student uprising" that we now recognize as the Great Divide that has split our nation down the middle. I cannot understand how John Kerry, who claims to have been in so many places that were "hot" and to have received wounds from enemy fire (although some of these claims now seem to be "questionable"), could come back here, grow his hair and join the student movement. I cannot understand how he could throw his service, and the service that so many others rendered to their country, on the block of self advancement. Was it the price his backers demanded of him in order to advance his political career? I wouldn't be surprised - after all, he comes from the great state of the Kennedy tribe. One had only to look at Teddy and company to see the future of the left wing movement after their cause ended in the early 70's.
And how does four (4) months in 'Nam qualify him as an expert? I know many vets who spent 2 and 3 YEARS there, doing the dirty, dangerous duties on a daily basis, that didn't need to join a student movement that believed in nothing. Maybe that's the key - Kerry believes in nothing but his own interests. I think his life post-'Nam proves this point. As I indicated, the big news media seems to love this guy - look at the CBS News scandal and you'll see a news company that hooked their "informant" on Bush up with the Kerry Campaign. The only question we need to ask is which of these individuals - Bush or Kerry - has stood for something other than their self interest. Bush has room to improve, but Kerry is at the bottom of my list.
Kerry does not deserve the presidency - he's a fraud and a sham. He's adopted so many different positions that I doubt if even he knows what he stands for anymore.
