You and I both know that it will take a long time to get things under control. It dawns on me every time I read another article that these people just don't know any better. They have been deprived of education and information, so the only truth they know is the example being set forth by the US troops and the Shiite police. Kind of scary to imagine putting your trust in a US soldier to protect you from a Shiite policemen. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard spot.

Everything I read or hear seems to be talking about the new military initiatives. The US is dealing more directly with local Sunnis to register guns and weapons and going house to house to meet with the Sunni people to restore trust. Of course, that doesn't make everyone happy since some believe that is not warrior like. However, I like the approach since it will result in far fewer deaths every day. Also, it will help everyone get back to work that much quicker. Once they have confidence to work, they won't have as much time to run around planting bombs.

The effect of the terrorists has destabilized so much of the normal life of Iraq that no one has anything to do. Boredom gets people into more trouble, look at all the dope smoking hippies with nothing to do after school. Put them into sports or after school activities and their lives are so much more productive. I digress, but the point is the same that people become dangerous when they have no resources or responsibilities to keep them occupied.

It's great to hear the US is taking out the Shiite death squads too. Everyone in Iraq has to understand that democracy means equal punishment for anyone that commits violence against their enemies. Too bad there is no press to report any kind of information from the ME, not surprising though since they all get kidnapped and beheaded. Thanks for all the great references that are available about how relationships are improving!!

Perhaps the revolution in Iraq will become a standard of democracy they can be proud of in a few years. I think the next 12 months will reverse the patterns of sectarian violence is the Sunnis get the drift that America is there to protect them from the potential threats from Shiites. They will be the ones demanding US presence long term to protect them from the Shiite majority, especially in light of the crazy bastards in Iran. Shiites uber alles is not going to be a welcome reality over the next few years in Iraq, but the Sunnis can endure the transition the sooner they get behind the movement in democracy. They have the most to lose if they don't come up with a survival strategy.
