The head of the NY firefighters union was on Bill O'Reilly's cable TV show last night. What's driving these firefighters (and triggering their emotions) is a strong desire to recover the remains of all their fallen comrades in a dignified manner ... as opposed to having all the debris loaded onto dump trucks, and then searching for body parts on Staten Island.

I understand Giuliani's point of view. He wants the site cleaned up ASAP so the rebuilding process can proceed.

However, I'm not sure Giuliani has properly gauged the depth of feelings the firefighters have for their 340 fallen brothers.

Surely a compromise can be worked out.
