If the new product...is has hot as it looks... I've been pondering this for the last several hours. I have to admit that when I first saw the announcement, my immediate response was- CWDM, that's old technology, who cares? But with a little bit of reading, and an understanding of where this product fits into the overall network topology, I now believe that we should all care a lot! It is the ideal low-cost solution for businesses (and homes), which don't require a lot of bandwidth, to connect to the nearest hub of a DWDM system. At 10 Gbs x 4 channels, the aggregate badwidth is 40Gbps = 1000 volumes of an encyclopedia/sec. With scalability this obviously can be increased. The main point is, think of how many tranceivers might be sold over the next few years. Optical access has launched a product that addresses a need as far downstream as you can go - the point of maximal amplification (and therefore revenue). Sounds like a sound business strategy to me.
