That statment in bold has me worried more then anything, almost as much as BIOS vendors doing I2O?

The embedded microprocesser market is incredibly competitive right now. PowerPC, 68K, ARM/StrongARM, x86, SH3, and MIPS, among others, all have significant marketshare. If implemented well and if Java stakes out a significant foothold in the embedded market then the JavaChip would be an attractive option for many devices (but probably not for many, many other devices). It's still unclear what effect this would have on RTOS vendors. Since the JavaChip will be capable of running C and/or C++ code, and many of these devices will still have real-time requirements which Java may not be able to address, you might still see an RTOS running on these chips. I certainly don't see a cause for worry at this point; lots of things would have to happen in a very specific manner for RTOS vendors to be threatened.
