DEBKA has made many many many many mistakes.

No question. As I've said many times before, when I read debka I am careful to notice when they say they are reporting facts, e.g. "debka's Palestinian sources say that Arafat said x to Abu Ala yesterday" vs when they present an analysis, e.g. "debka's analysts say this news means x, y and z".

Their reporting about Israel/Pal tends to check out most of the time. Their record gets worse as they go farther afield into neighboring countries. Their analysis tends to be wildly speculative, and written up in a very breathless style. As you say, gotta keep people off Fox. If you remember this, it helps you sort out what you read in debka.

I have far more trust in what they tell me of Sharon's rejiggering his Likud alliances or Arafat's latest machinations to ensure he remains in control than in their speculations on Iraq.
