That's quite a spin, in my opinion (speaking for myself, not SGI). None of these Suns were used for creation work, just rendering, they were quite old boxes, and Pixar was `persuaded' because they got them more or less free.

Note the clever use of `help create' for something that involves only brute-force compute power ;), and `persuade to use' for `give'.

They even tried using Toy Story to push Creator 3D workstations, though they had nothing to do with the boxes Pixar used, and the stations that *did* the equivalent at Pixar were SGI ;}. Now that's marketing! [It's also misleading, of course, but that doesn't stop them].

Unfortunately for them, many of the `making of...' videos shown afterwards were packed with brightly coloured workstations ;;).
