Given that choice, I'd pick the Sandinistas.
I am somewhat surprised that you would pick Communists, but maybe I should not be.
First even as a kid, I was never terrified by the term communists. That's more a GOP horror for movie matinees. Secondly, as with many Central American orgs., its the lesser of two evils. The right wingers were much worse in power than the Sandinistas. I am more concerned with the impact on the people and not as much about the ideology. Ideologies come and go esp. in Central America.........the people are always there.
The real choice was Communist and insurgency, supported by the US government, that demanded free elections. When after and despite Kerry's sabotage, free elections were eventually held, the Sandinista Communists were promptly voted out of office.
Insurgents? The communists WERE the insurgents. In any case, Ortega was elected in 1984. He did not do a great job and was turned out in 1990. My comments earlier had to do with the violence and killings under the right wingers and not the quality of the governance. Ortega was not a good president.......so he got the boot. Its as it should be.
I frankly recognize that there were many on the left who did not believe in fighting and winning the Cold war, and there are many today who do not believe in fighting the war against terrorism.
I find many on the right who use fear as a basis for developing a cold war. In fact, I would say the GOP is the party of fear. That strategy has worked for a long time but I believe its wearing thin.........esp. as the public becomes more aware of the numerous mistakes made by GOP presidents and the incidents of bad espionage that back fire in our faces. And Bush's conservative counterparts.....Sharon and Putin are encountering similar problems. These people are not men of peace but men that agitate trouble and maintain power through divisive tactics.
Yesterday, Harris posted an article that horrified him.........it stated that Republicans expect to be lead by their leaders and the Dems. expect to be served by their's. The two perspectives are telling and contribute to the divide between us. One is based on the lemming principle and the other on competency. I fall in the latter camp. I am tired of incompetent leaders esp. those of the GOP variety that embroil us in messes all over the world.
Kerry's heart is with this group of people in my opinion, and the implication of this is that he is unfit to be the next president of the US. Democrats made a bad choice in picking Kerry.
If I were looking at both men's resumes for a job, Bush probably would not make it to the first interview.
I will be proudly voting for Kerry come November! You would be smart to do likewise. |
