Lernout & Hauspie -2: Acquisitions In Europe, U.S. Or Asia
BRUSSELS (Dow Jones)--Belgian software company Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products NV (LHSPF) plans to strengthen its position in the market through acquisitions, Chief Executive Gaston Bastiaens said.
'We have enough money in the bank, and a very powerful currency (collateral) in our stock for acquisitions,' Bastiaens told journalists. He said L&H has $128 million in cash.
Bastiaens said the company is interested in taking over the advanced
technology division of U.S. network specialist Novell. 'We respect Novell highly,' he said. 'They have a number of very good competences.'
Bastiaens said acquisitions could occur in Europe, the U.S., or even the Far East. 'We want to prepare for the moment when the markets in the Far East start growing again,' he said.
