Smuggling cracked
SHANTOU -- The customs office of this port city in South China's Guangdong Province
destroyed more than 8,830 obscene publications, 3,000 pirated compact video disks and other
confiscated smuggled items on a site in the city's outskirts on Thursday. The contraband also
included some 400 cases of fake-brand cigarettes, used clothing and fake medicines. It was
seized from two smuggling boats. Since early last year, the Shantou customs has stepped up its
efforts to combat smuggling and deal with obscene publications.
