Comdata Launches CabCARD Services
In-Cab Communication Service Enhances Fleet, Driver Security; Rapid Fleet Adoption Leads to Further Joint Product Developments
BRENTWOOD, Tenn., March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Comdata Corporation announced today the commercial availability of its CabCARD Personal Communication services; a jointly-developed service of Comdata and QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news). The only service of its kind in the transportation industry, CabCARD Personal Communications is a pre-paid service providing driver e-mail, long distance telecommunications, and voice mail capabilities. More than 100 of the nation's premiere fleets have already elected to offer CabCARD services, powered by Comdata, to their driver workforce; the first in a series of CabCARD-based product initiatives Comdata and QUALCOMM expect to introduce. ``With CabCARD, drivers can send and receive e-mail to and from any Internet address right from the cabs of their trucks for much less than the typical cost of a phone call. Because costs can be deducted from the same Comdata fuel card a driver already carries, it's a convenient and secure alternative to other methods of communication,'' said Frank Adelman, Comdata executive vice president, Transportation Services. ``We are very encouraged by the rapid adoption of the CabCARD platform, and believe it will lead to a new standard in reliable, mobile communications technology for our nation's truckload carriers. We look forward to enhancing its services in the near future.''
Using CabCARD, drivers can send messages using QUALCOMM's OmniTRACS®, TruckMAIL(TM) or OmniExpress(TM)® mobile communications system. Messages are routed directly to the driver's QUALCOMM device, eliminating the need for fleet involvement with integration, billing and reconciliation issues. CabCARD messaging and telecommunications services are the first in a series of initiatives planned for the CabCARD platform.
``In coming months, we plan to introduce CabCARD services that will enhance the way fleets distribute mission-critical information to their operations,'' said Adelman. ``There are many ways fleets can reduce manually-intensive procedures using the CabCARD platform.''
Funds for e-mail messaging and long-distance telecommunications services may be deducted from the driver's existing Comdata card through their Express Cash account, or through a number of other prepaid options, including Comdata card cash advance, credit card (VISA(TM), MasterCard®, Discover®), or prepaid recharge cards sold in select truck stops, including at present all Petro locations. Drivers may also use a number of other money transfer services. With access to 10,000 network locations and 500,000 Cirrus and Maestro merchant accepting locations in North America, Comdata is considered the industry standard for cash access and information services in the transportation industry.
