It is the only year around off shore port. And Vancouver is not the only one. Rupert and Stewart are the most northern Ice free year around on the West coast. Rupert is a container port rail connected, Kitimat presently a 10,000 man camp is under construction to house workers who are to build Nat Gas load out facilities for BC , Alberta and any other connected Provinces. If Trudeau did not stop it a oil port was also to be constructed there for off shore sales to the orient. A port on located on Hudson Bay, due to ice cannot be shipped from 12 months a year. And the territorial water route goes through Eastern Canadian territiory. Not belonging to the New west.

The Socialist hoards of Vancouver lower mainland are where protests stem from. Not from those who actually work and live in the Center / Northern part of the Province. For the most part, Interior BC other than a couple of areas is mainly conservative. But like Canada where the two Central provinces dictate. The Vancouver area does the same to the rest of BC. That could be changed under the new Country Constitution. Creating more equalization of power for other parts of BC. Similar to What the institution of Electoral College does in the USA Perhaps if the same system was used here in Canada there would be no discontent.
