Tri-Vision International Wins Exclusive World-Wide V-Chip
Rights

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 1997--

TRI-VISION ELECTRONICS INC. HAS BEEN AWARDED THE EXCLUSIVE

WORLD-WIDE RIGHTS TO TIM COLLINGS' WORLD-ACCLAIMED V-CHIP

TECHNOLOGY, IT ANNOUNCED TODAY

Tri-Vision Electronics Inc. has been awarded the exclusive world-wide rights To Tim
Collings'
world-acclaimed V-Chip technology, it announced today.

In May of 1996, Canada's Tri-Vision was selected by Canadian V- Chip Design Inc. to
develop the
world's first V-Chip Decoder, a device which gives parents control over the quality and
content of
television programs viewed in the home.

As a result of Tri-Vision's expertise in research and development and its experience in this
field, Tim
Colling, inventor of the V- Chip and President of Canadian V-Chip design Inc. today
awarded these
expanded rights.

With the expansion of these rights to cover the entire world and to include all V-Chip
products based
on Tim Collings' invention that will be developed in the future, Chairman Najmul H.
Siddiqui stated
"We had projected cumulative revenues for Tri-Vision to be very significant based on the
V-Chip
Decoder rights for Canada only. With this acquisition of exclusive world-wide rights for
all of Tim
Collings' V-Chip technology products, Tri-Vision has been sky-rocketed into a world
leadership
position. The global market potential for the V-Chip is staggering."

Tim Collings, in awarding the exclusive world-wide rights to Tri- Vision stated that
"Tri-Vision has
clearly demonstrated its superior capability for developing new consumer and industry
technologies
and bringing them to market. This new relationship with Tri-Vision will enable us to
better meet the
market demand that exists now and is developing as more countries legislate the V-Chip
technology
following the model legislation already put in place by Canada and the United States
governments."

In early 1996, U.S. President Bill Clinton signed into law the requirement that all new
televisions be
equipped with the V-Chip by 1998. Canada's broadcasters' recommendations for a rating
system to
enable the V-Chip technology and concerned parents to screen objectionable content from
children's
viewing are required to be in place by September 1997. The European Parliament and
Australia
recently introduced legislation to adopt the V-Chip technology.

Tri-Vision is currently working with V-Chip inventor Tim Collings, to develop the
technology for use
directly in televisions. Tim Collings accepted an appointment to the Tri- Vision Board of
Directors
earlier in 1996 and Chairs its Research Committee.

Tri-Vision Electronics Inc. is a leading supplier of high technology products to the global
cable
television and multimedia industries. Parent company Tri-Vision International Ltd./Ltee
trades on The
Alberta Stock Exchange under the symbol TVL.
