I know Advent well, having worked in their field for a number of years. They have aggressive sales tactics and clearly lead the market share in the portfolio mgmt software business. You can learn alot about them by visiting their web site. Mgmt is solid, growth and goals are aggressive. They are just about to introduce a web-based data service to their clients -- which is pretty clever. An in-house based system requires the money mgmt firm to import their own data for pricing, reorg/capital adjustments, fixed income security data, data files from the custodians for reconciliation themselves, via modem. Advent will centralize all the data their clients want, enable clients to pull it off the web in a single shot, and charge a "toll" for this service. The one fundamental issue is that Advent brags loudly, and often about their successes. Look carefully at the real numbers underneath for the true value of the stock.
